A Perfect Summer Treat at Craig-y-Nos
After spending a warm afternoon exploring the beautiful grounds of Craig-y-Nos Country Park, our group was ready for a well-earned refreshment. The sunshine made the park look stunning. However, it also left us searching for something cool and refreshing.
Fortunately, we found exactly what we needed at Dwy Afon, located within the park grounds. Their selection of Llanfaes Dairy ice cream provided the perfect way to end our visit.

Choosing the Perfect Flavour
With so many tempting options available, making a choice was not easy. Eventually, I selected a vanilla ice cream topped with raspberry sauce.
The combination worked wonderfully. The smooth vanilla provided a rich and creamy base. Meanwhile, the raspberry added a sweet yet slightly tangy flavour. Every spoonful was refreshing and satisfying. On such a hot day, it was exactly what I was hoping for.

Discovering Llanfaes Dairy
Llanfaes Dairy has become one of Wales’ most respected artisan ice cream producers. Established in 1996 in Brecon, the family-run business has grown into a popular name across South Wales.
What makes their ice cream stand out is the traditional production process. Each batch is carefully crafted by hand. The ingredients are mixed, pasteurised, churned, and decorated using methods that prioritise quality over mass production.
As a result, every flavour delivers a wonderfully smooth texture and exceptional taste.
Quality Welsh Ingredients
One of the reasons Llanfaes Dairy ice cream tastes so good is its commitment to quality ingredients. The company uses locally sourced Welsh milk and cream as the foundation of its recipes.
In addition, natural fruits and premium ingredients are sourced from leading Italian flavour specialists. This combination creates authentic Italian-style gelato while maintaining strong Welsh roots.
The result is a rich, creamy ice cream that feels both indulgent and refreshing.
A Flavour for Everyone
Llanfaes Dairy is well known for its incredible range of flavours. Over the years, the company has created more than 100 varieties, with some reports suggesting over 250 different flavours have been developed.
Each parlour typically offers between 40 and 48 rotating flavours. Traditional favourites sit alongside more adventurous options. Popular choices include Kinder Bueno, Jammie Dodger, Tequila Rose, and avocado with lime.
Furthermore, many of the flavours are gluten-free, making them accessible to a wider range of visitors.
Dwy Afon at Craig-y-Nos Country Park
Dwy Afon provides an ideal stopping point when visiting Craig-y-Nos Country Park. Whether you have completed one of the woodland walks or simply enjoyed the gardens, an ice cream is a welcome treat.
The relaxed atmosphere makes it easy to sit back, enjoy the scenery, and appreciate the natural beauty surrounding the park.
Final Thoughts
Our visit to Craig-y-Nos Country Park was enjoyable from start to finish. The beautiful surroundings, warm weather, and friendly company created a memorable day out.
However, the highlight for me was undoubtedly the Llanfaes Dairy vanilla and raspberry ice cream. It was creamy, flavourful, and wonderfully refreshing.
If you are visiting Craig-y-Nos Country Park during the warmer months, I would certainly recommend treating yourself to a Llanfaes Dairy ice cream at Dwy Afon. It is the perfect way to cool down after exploring one of the Swansea Valley’s most picturesque locations.
