Loaf Kitchen & Bar Ystradgynlais Review | Lunch Before Craig-y-Nos Castle

A Perfect Stop Before Visiting Craig-y-Nos Castle

A group of friends recently decided to spend the day exploring the beautiful grounds of Craig-y-Nos Castle. Before heading to the castle, we wanted somewhere welcoming for lunch, so we made our way to Loaf Kitchen & Bar in nearby Ystradgynlais.

With a varied menu and plenty of choice, Loaf Kitchen & Bar proved to be an excellent option for our discerning group from Swansea. Whether you were looking for a light lunch, a hearty meal, or simply a good coffee, there was something to suit every taste.

Relaxing in the Garden

The weather was kind to us, so we chose to sit outside in the garden area beneath one of the large parasols. It was a lovely spot to enjoy the sunshine while catching up with friends before our afternoon adventure.

Service was excellent from the start. A friendly waitress quickly arrived to take our drinks order before returning to take our food choices. The staff were attentive throughout our visit and helped create a relaxed atmosphere.

My Coronation Chicken Salad

Rachel and I both selected the Coronation Chicken Salad. The dish arrived as a generous bowl of mixed salad topped with coronation chicken and served alongside crusty bread and coleslaw.

The portion size was impressive and offered excellent value for money. The salad was fresh and colourful, while the coronation chicken provided plenty of flavour. The crusty bread complemented the dish well, making it a satisfying lunch without feeling overly heavy. The coleslaw was pleasant and added a creamy accompaniment to the meal.

Something for Everyone

One of the strengths of Loaf Kitchen & Bar is its diverse menu. The rest of our group chose a variety of dishes, ranging from light bites to more substantial meals. Every plate that arrived looked generous and well-presented.

More importantly, everyone enjoyed their food. Conversations around the table were full of compliments about both the quality and quantity of the meals. By the end of lunch, there was a shared agreement that Loaf would be worth revisiting in the future.

A Local Success Story

Loaf has been serving the Ystradgynlais community since 2011. What originally began as a small coffee shop has steadily grown into the popular Loaf Kitchen & Bar that visitors enjoy today.

The venue now offers breakfast, lunch, speciality coffees, evening dining, tapas nights, burgers, cocktails, and a welcoming garden space. Its continued success reflects the support it receives from both local customers and visitors exploring the Swansea Valley and surrounding areas.

Final Thoughts

Our visit to Loaf Kitchen & Bar provided exactly what we were looking for: friendly service, generous portions, good value, and a pleasant setting to enjoy lunch with friends.

If you are planning a visit to Craig-y-Nos Castle, walking in the surrounding countryside, or simply passing through Ystradgynlais, Loaf Kitchen & Bar is well worth considering. The varied menu ensures there is something for everyone, while the relaxed atmosphere makes it an ideal place to meet friends and enjoy good food.

While some elements of the meal were stronger than others, the overall experience was enjoyable. The generous portions, welcoming service, and excellent value for money left a positive impression on our group. Most importantly, everyone enjoyed their meals and agreed that Loaf would be worth visiting again in the future.
