Returning to Govinda’s Swansea

On Friday 15th May 2026, I was delighted to be invited by my friend Rhian to join a female food club evening at Govinda’s Swansea, located at 8 Cradock Street in Swansea city centre. It had been many years since I last visited, and returning there brought back fond memories from when I used to live nearby and regularly eat at the café.

Govinda’s Swansea is a bright, relaxed vegetarian and vegan café run by the Hare Krishna community. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and flavourful food, the café continues to be a hidden gem within Swansea’s dining scene.

A Warm Welcome

From the moment we arrived at 6.30pm, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting. We were served by the lovely Brian, who was friendly, relaxed, and welcoming throughout the evening. His cheerful service helped make the experience even more enjoyable for our group.

Choosing the Evening Meal

For my meal, I chose the Large Curry Plate, which came with curry, rice, savoury items, and chutney. Alongside this, I ordered a Savoury Plate featuring a trio of fried savouries served with chutneys. I paired the meal with an AU 0% lager, which complemented the food nicely.

Delicious Food and Generous Portions

The food was absolutely delicious. The curry was full of flavour, comforting, and perfectly cooked, while the savouries added a lovely crispy texture to the meal. The chutneys also added extra richness and spice to the dishes.

As a group, we also shared a portion of Masala Fries, which quickly became a favourite around the table. The portions at Govinda’s are generous, making sharing dishes with friends a great idea. The fries were wonderfully seasoned and incredibly tasty.

Maybe Next Time, the Chai Latte

Although I enjoyed my drink, in hindsight I think I would have loved to try one of Govinda’s famous chai lattes instead. Seeing others enjoying theirs definitely tempted me, so that will be something to order on my next visit.

A Wonderful Evening with Friends

It was such a lovely evening filled with laughter, friendship, and excellent vegetarian food. Returning to Govinda’s reminded me why I enjoyed visiting so much in the past. The café still offers the same relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, generous portions, and delicious food that made it special all those years ago.

If you are looking for a relaxed vegetarian or vegan dining experience in Swansea city centre, Govinda’s Swansea is definitely worth a visit.
