Maple & Bean Cardiff Review – Breakfast in Morgan Arcade

A Morning Escape Before Cardiff Pride

On the morning of Cardiff Pride, before the city burst into a sea of colour, music, and celebration, my friend Clare and I decided to escape the hustle and bustle of the early preparations and enjoy a relaxing breakfast in the heart of the Welsh capital.

Our destination was Maple & Bean, located at 28 Morgan Arcade, Cardiff. Nestled within the historic Morgan Quarter, the café enjoys one of the most charming settings in the city centre. The Morgan Arcade, dating back to the late 19th century, has long been a cornerstone of Cardiff’s shopping scene. Today, its beautiful Victorian architecture, independent businesses, and vibrant atmosphere continue to attract visitors from across Wales and beyond.

A Beautiful Setting in a Historic Arcade

Situated within the stunning Morgan Arcade, Maple & Bean occupies a Grade II listed building that perfectly complements its surroundings. The café is spread across two floors and also offers outdoor seating within the arcade itself, allowing visitors to soak up the unique character of this historic location.

There was no need to make a reservation. Clare and I simply popped in and were quickly shown to a table. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt welcoming and relaxed, providing the perfect start to what promised to be a busy and exciting day.

Eggs Royale Done Perfectly

For breakfast, I chose the Eggs Royale. The dish consisted of a toasted English muffin topped with smoked salmon, perfectly poached eggs, and a generous helping of rich hollandaise sauce.

The presentation was excellent, and the quality of the ingredients was immediately apparent. The smoked salmon was fresh and flavourful, while the poached eggs were cooked exactly as they should be, with soft golden yolks that blended beautifully with the creamy hollandaise sauce. Every element worked together perfectly, creating a breakfast that was both satisfying and indulgent.

To accompany my meal, I ordered a pot of tea. I was delighted to see it served in a traditional teapot alongside a classic cup and saucer. It was a lovely touch that added to the café’s charm and made the experience feel even more special.

Friendly Service and a Relaxed Atmosphere

One of the standout features of our visit was the excellent service. The staff were friendly, attentive, and efficient without being intrusive. Despite the growing crowds gathering around Cardiff city centre for Pride festivities, the café maintained a calm and welcoming atmosphere.

The combination of great food, traditional touches, and excellent customer service made for a thoroughly enjoyable breakfast experience.

Final Thoughts

Maple & Bean offers much more than just a place to eat. Its location within the historic Morgan Arcade, combined with quality food and attentive service, creates an experience that feels uniquely Cardiff.

Whether you’re looking for a leisurely breakfast, a quick coffee break, or somewhere to escape the busy city centre for a while, Maple & Bean is well worth a visit. My Eggs Royale was beautifully prepared, the tea was served with traditional charm, and the friendly service ensured our day got off to the perfect start before heading out to enjoy Cardiff Pride.
