The Hope & Anchor, Tenby – Fresh Seafood, Friendly Service and a Warm Welcome

A Day Trip to Tenby with Ageing Well Swansea

Our recent day trip to Tenby was organised by Social Care and Wellbeing for Adults 50 and Over in Swansea (Ageing Well), and I would like to thank Pauline Anderson for arranging such an enjoyable outing. Special thanks must also go to Pauline for seemingly praying for good weather, as the days leading up to the trip had been a complete washout. Thankfully, we were blessed with mostly dry conditions, interrupted only by the occasional light shower throughout the day.

After spending time exploring the beautiful seaside town, my friends and I decided to have lunch at The Hope & Anchor. Rachel and I had visited the pub two years earlier and had fond memories of the excellent seafood dishes, so returning was an easy decision.

Returning to a Favourite Tenby Pub

The Hope & Anchor has built an excellent reputation for serving quality food in a welcoming setting. During our previous visit, the seafood dishes had left a lasting impression, and we were eager to see if the pub could maintain those high standards.

Fortunately, our second visit confirmed that the quality, service and atmosphere remain as impressive as ever.

Freshly Cooked Hake for Lunch

I chose the Fish of the Day, which on this occasion was hake. The beautifully cooked fish was served with boiled potatoes and a fresh salad that included red cabbage.

While it was one of the more expensive options on the menu, it was worth every penny. The freshness and quality of the produce were evident from the first bite, and the fish was cooked perfectly. The portion size was generous without being overwhelming, and the flavours spoke for themselves.

To accompany the meal, I enjoyed a pint of Madri. It may not have been the most adventurous drink choice, but it complemented the meal perfectly.

Rachel’s Favourite Fish Pie

Rachel opted for her favourite dish on the menu, the popular Fish Pie, which was served with a side salad. Having enjoyed it during our previous visit, she was delighted to find that the standard remained just as high.

The rich, creamy filling and generous seafood content once again demonstrated why it remains one of the pub’s most popular dishes. It was another excellent example of the quality seafood available at The Hope & Anchor.

Friendly and Efficient Service

What impressed us just as much as the food was the service. Staff were friendly, welcoming, attentive and efficient throughout our visit.

Despite the pub being busy, our meals arrived promptly, and the team ensured everything ran smoothly. Their professionalism and warm approach helped make the experience even more enjoyable.

The Atmosphere at The Hope & Anchor

The Hope & Anchor perfectly combines the charm of a traditional local pub with the quality of a modern gastropub. The nautical-themed interior creates a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, while the menu celebrates hearty classics, seasonal specials and exceptionally fresh seafood.

The pub is also dog-friendly and offers a good selection of locally brewed ales, ciders and draught beers. This combination of excellent food, comfortable surroundings and friendly service makes it appealing to both locals and visitors alike.

Why The Hope & Anchor Stands Out

Located in the heart of Tenby, The Hope & Anchor seamlessly blends homeliness with authenticity. Whether you are looking for a casual lunch, an evening meal or simply a drink after exploring the town, it provides a stylish yet comfortable setting for all visitors.

The emphasis on fresh local ingredients, particularly seafood, helps distinguish it from many other pubs in the area.

Final Thoughts

Our second visit certainly did not disappoint. From the delicious fresh seafood and excellent service to the welcoming atmosphere, The Hope & Anchor once again proved why it remains one of our favourite places to eat in Tenby.

If you enjoy fresh seafood, quality pub food and genuine Welsh hospitality, The Hope & Anchor is well worth a visit.
