After a warm and pleasant Sunday afternoon in Swansea, my friend Rachel and I decided to enjoy an early evening meal at ASK Italian on Wind Street before heading on to Three Monkeys for the rest of our night out.
Booking Ahead is Recommended
Knowing how popular ASK Italian can be, I made sure to book our table online for 5:45pm. The restaurant is often busy, and on previous visits I have been unlucky in securing a table without a reservation. Booking ahead certainly proved worthwhile, as there was already a lively atmosphere when we arrived.
A Surprise Menu Limitation
Upon being seated, we were informed that all pasta dishes were unavailable that evening. This was quite unusual for a well-established chain restaurant, particularly on a busy Sunday evening. Although initially disappointed, Rachel and I decided to continue with our meal and explore some of the other options available on the menu.
Refreshing Mocktails to Start
Before ordering our food, we both chose the Lime & Mint Twist mocktail. Reminiscent of a classic mojito, this refreshing drink combines zesty lime and fresh mint with soda over ice.
The mocktail was wonderfully refreshing and proved to be the perfect choice on such a warm day. The balance of citrus and mint created a light and cooling drink that complemented the evening perfectly.
Sea Bass alla Mediterranea
For my main course, I selected the Sea Bass alla Mediterranea. The oven-baked sea bass was topped with slow-roasted tomatoes, black olives and capers, creating a wonderful Mediterranean flavour.
The dish was served on a bed of roasted potatoes, mushrooms and spinach, accompanied by a buttery white wine sauce. The fish was cooked beautifully and remained tender throughout, while the vegetables provided a satisfying accompaniment. The rich yet balanced flavours made this an enjoyable alternative to my usual pasta choice.

Caesar Classica
Rachel opted for the Caesar Classica. This consisted of fresh cos lettuce topped with chicken breast pieces and smoky pancetta, all tossed in ASK Italian’s signature Caesar dressing flavoured with anchovies.
Finished with riserva cheese and crunchy croutons, the salad looked both fresh and appetising. Rachel thoroughly enjoyed her meal, commenting on the generous portion size and the well-balanced flavours.

A Sweet Finish
No Italian meal feels complete without dessert, and we were both eager to sample something sweet.
I chose the Sicilian Lemon Tart, served with a mixed berry coulis. The tart delivered a wonderfully zingy citrus flavour that lived up to its Sicilian inspiration. The berry coulis added a pleasant sweetness that balanced the sharp lemon perfectly.
Meanwhile, Rachel selected the classic Tiramisu. Featuring creamy layers of mascarpone with a coffee-infused kick, it looked every bit as indulgent as expected. To accompany her desserts, Rachel enjoyed a standard coffee, providing the perfect end to the meal.#

Saving Money with Tesco Clubcard Vouchers
One of the highlights of our visit was being able to save a significant amount of money by using Tesco Clubcard vouchers. Tesco Clubcard members can exchange their vouchers for ASK Italian Reward Partner codes, which are worth up to three times the face value of the original vouchers.
We arranged this before our visit by exchanging our vouchers online through the Tesco Clubcard website. It is important to do this in advance, as you cannot simply present Clubcard vouchers at the restaurant. Instead, Tesco issues a digital reward code that can be shown on your phone or printed out and presented when paying your bill.
The process is straightforward and can make a substantial difference to the overall cost of dining out. If you regularly collect Tesco Clubcard points, I would highly recommend checking whether you have enough vouchers available before visiting ASK Italian. It is a great way to enjoy a meal while keeping costs down, especially when dining with friends or family.
Just remember to exchange only the amount you expect to use, as no change is given for any unused value on the reward code.
Service and Overall Experience
Despite the unexpected absence of all pasta dishes, the staff remained polite, attentive and professional throughout our visit. Service was prompt, drinks arrived quickly, and the team ensured that we were well looked after during the evening.
The restaurant maintained its welcoming atmosphere, and both Rachel and I left satisfied before continuing our evening on Wind Street. While the limited menu was disappointing, the quality of the food we received and the excellent customer service helped make up for the inconvenience.
Final Thoughts
Although ASK Italian Swansea was operating with an unusually restricted menu during our visit, the alternative dishes available still provided an enjoyable dining experience. The refreshing Lime & Mint Twist mocktails, flavourful Sea Bass alla Mediterranea, delicious desserts and attentive service combined to create a pleasant start to our evening out.
Another bonus was being able to use Tesco Clubcard Reward Partner codes, helping us enjoy a delicious meal at a fraction of the usual cost. Combined with the friendly service and enjoyable food, it made for an excellent start to our evening on Wind Street before heading to Three Monkeys.
Would I visit again? Absolutely. Hopefully the full menu will be available next time, but even with the limitations, ASK Italian Swansea delivered a pleasant dining experience in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
