A Pre-Theatre Meal in Swansea

Before heading to the Grand Theatre Swansea to see Our Town, starring Michael Sheen, four friends and I met for dinner at Turtle Bay Swansea. Its central location made it a convenient option for a pre-theatre meal in the city.

Caribbean-Inspired Menu

Turtle Bay Swansea offers a menu inspired by Caribbean flavours, featuring curries, small plates and cocktails. During our visit, the restaurant was fairly quiet, which created a calm and relaxed atmosphere before the show.

Cocktails & Mocktails – 2 for £13

One of the main attractions at Turtle Bay Swansea is the 2-for-£13 cocktail and mocktail deal. However, the menu does not clearly explain that both drinks must be the same choice, which caused some confusion at the table.

Spring Ting Spritz
Made with Duppy White rum, elderflower, mint and grapefruit soda with gin, this was the standout drink of the evening. It was refreshing, well balanced and served with a sensible amount of ice.

Passion Fruit Royal
While the flavour was pleasant, this mocktail contained too much ice. As a result, there was less drink and the passion fruit taste felt diluted.

Food Review – Mixed Results

Curry Channa & Spinach
Spiced chickpeas with wilted spinach and aubergine.
Both Caroline and I felt this dish lacked spice and depth of flavour. The portion size and quality felt disappointing for the price, especially considering the simplicity of the ingredients. Others at the table shared similar views after ordering different dishes.

Trinidad Coconut Chicken Curry
A slow-simmered coconut chicken curry with ginger and garlic.
Rachel described this dish as pleasant but not particularly memorable. While it was fine, it lacked the richness and seasoning expected from a Caribbean curry.

Final Thoughts on Turtle Bay Swansea

Overall, Turtle Bay Swansea works well as a relaxed spot for cocktails before the theatre. While the drinks were enjoyable, the food did not fully meet expectations in terms of flavour or value. It was an acceptable experience, but one that left room for improvement.
