A Return Visit by the Sea

Seaside Dining at The Observatory Swansea

There are few better ways to round off a sunny spring week than with seaside dining at The Observatory Swansea. That’s exactly what my friend Caroline and I had in mind as we returned to this much-loved spot on a golden Friday afternoon in April. The beach was basking in sunshine, the tide was out, and Mumbles Pier glistened in the distance. As the evening approached, the timing felt just right for a relaxed catch-up in the sea air.

A Familiar Spot with a View

It had been since last August that I last visited The Observatory. Back then, I wrote about the experience in A Brunch with a View, where you can also discover more about the venue’s fascinating maritime history. Since that visit, the memory of the generous portion sizes stuck with me—delicious, yes, but definitely on the heavier side. With that in mind, I decided to go for something a little lighter this time around.

Light Bites, Big Flavour

For my meal, I chose the Smoked Salmon Brioche Bagel, filled with velvety cream cheese and slices of ripe avocado, all layered with delicately smoked salmon. Altogether, it made for a refreshing and satisfying combination. The brioche itself was lightly toasted and slightly sweet, adding a lovely contrast to the saltiness of the salmon.

Meanwhile, Caroline ordered the Avocado on Sourdough, which came topped with crumbled feta, fresh chili, pine nuts, pomegranate seeds, and a drizzle of pesto dressing. Visually, it was stunning—bursting with colour and texture. More importantly, it was just as delicious as it looked. The mix of crunch, creaminess, and a hint of spice made it a clear winner.

Cheers to the Weekend

To complement our meal, we choose a cold glass of Peroni, which was exactly what we needed to unwind. As the sun began to set, we enjoyed the warmth on our faces, the calm rolling of the sea, and the unmistakable sound of seagulls overhead. Without a doubt, it was the perfect setting to end the week.

Final Thoughts

All in all, The Observatory continues to shine as one of Swansea’s most picturesque spots for casual dining. Whether you’re returning like I did, or visiting for the first time, you’ll find the combination of good food and panoramic coastal views hard to beat.

Here’s to more sunny Fridays, peaceful views, and memorable meals on the Swansea shoreline.
