Raj Kitchen Swansea

A Warming Indian Feast in the City Centre

A Perfect Post-Theatre Choice

On a wet, windy, and cold evening, after visiting Swansea Arena to see Sunny Afternoon — the hit musical based on the music of The Kinks — we took a short walk through the city centre. Soon after, we decided to eat at Raj Kitchen Swansea, a restaurant known for blending traditional Indian flavours with modern culinary techniques.

From the moment we arrived, the restaurant felt welcoming and lively. Despite not having a reservation, the team kindly fitted us in. As our table was time-limited, I quickly ordered a selection of my classic favourites.

Award-Winning Reputation

Earlier this autumn, Raj Kitchen proudly took home the Wales Chef of the Year award at the Welsh Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards for the second year running. This achievement has firmly established the restaurant as one of Wales’s leading Indian dining destinations.

Additionally, Raj Kitchen is currently ranked as the third best restaurant in Swansea on Tripadvisor, holding an impressive 4.9-star rating. Diners frequently praise the authentic flavours, excellent food quality, warm atmosphere, and friendly staff.

What We Ordered

To start, we shared a chutney tray, served with crisp poppadom’s. It included lime pickle, mint chutney, tamarind chutney, onion chutney, and mango chutney. The lime pickle, in particular, was a standout favourite.

For my starter, I chose onion bhajis. These were perfectly crisp, with onions coated in aromatic herbs and spices, bound in gram flour, and fried until golden.

For the main course, I opted for a hot and spicy chicken madras, served with fluffy pilau rice and a freshly baked garlic naan. The curry was rich, full of heat, and deeply flavourful, without overpowering the spices.

Returning Visit – 16th December 2025 Experience

I decided to visit Raj Kitchen Swansea again on 16th December to try my friend’s starter, Aloo Tikki & Beetroot Chaat. These handmade potato cakes were topped with spiced chickpeas, drizzled with seasoned yogurt, tamarind chutney, and homemade masalas, then finished with crispy sev and pomegranate seeds.

In addition, I explored their set menu offer, which included a starter, main, and dessert for £13.95. I chose Chicken Jalfrazi, cooked in a semi-dry spiced gravy with onions, peppers, and ginger. The flavours were rich and vibrant, making the meal extremely impressive. Overall, the experience reinforced why Raj Kitchen is one of Swansea’s best Indian restaurants.

Final Thoughts

The food was delicious, well-presented, and excellent value for money. My friends were equally impressed, and we all agreed that a return visit is essential. Next time, I hope to explore the chef’s specials, which come highly recommended.

Raj Kitchen Swansea is a fantastic choice for pre-theatre dining or a relaxed evening meal in the city centre.
