My Indian Ammanford

Award-Winning Flavours That Feel Personal

Tucked away on Wind Street in Ammanford, My Indian is an authentic grill cuisine and takeaway located at 19–21 Wind Street, SA18 3DN. Known for freshly cooked, traditional Indian food, this family-run restaurant has quickly built a strong reputation — and after our recent visit, it’s easy to see why.

Our decision to try My Indian came after reading a glowing recommendation on Wales Online, where it featured among award-winning Welsh restaurants. Expectations were high, yet the experience exceeded them in every way.

From the moment we arrived, the service felt friendly, efficient, and genuinely welcoming. There was no rush, just a relaxed atmosphere that set the tone for a great family meal.

What We Ordered

To start, we shared a Popadom & Chutney Tray, with the addition of lime pickle, which brought a sharp, punchy kick alongside the usual favourites. For a starter, the onion bhaji arrived crisp and golden, with a soft, well-spiced centre — a classic done properly.

For the main course, I decided to share two chef’s recommendations with my brother. One was medium, the other hot, allowing us to explore different flavour profiles side by side.

The Tawa Special (medium) featured marinated chicken cooked with spring onions, tomato, and fresh coriander. This dish stood out for its freshness. Every bite tasted vibrant, balanced, and carefully prepared rather than heavy or over-spiced.

Alongside it was the Chicken Cafreal (hot) — marinated chicken tikka cooked with lemon and green chillies. While undeniably hot, the heat never overwhelmed the dish. Instead, it complemented the citrus notes and worked beautifully alongside the milder Tawa Special, creating a satisfying contrast of flavours.

Both dishes were enjoyed with a cold Cobra beer, which paired perfectly with the spices and heat.

Final Thoughts

My Indian has easily become my favourite Indian restaurant to date. It truly lives up to its name — it feels personal, authentic, and made with care. The rest of the family were equally happy with their meals, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit.

If you’re in Ammanford and looking for award-recognised Indian cuisine that delivers on flavour, service, and atmosphere, My Indian is well worth a visit.
